At the Pennsylvania Avenue entrance of the National Archives, where researchers enter the building, a couple of statues by Robert Aitken flank the entrance. The statue on the left, called "Future," depicts a youthful woman holding an open book, symbolizing what has yet to be written. The quote "What is Past is Prologue," from Shakespeare's The Tempest, is inscribed on the base. As protesters march toward the Capitol, banners held high, the scene captures the importance of civic engagement in the course of history. May it serve as a reminder that we all play a part in shaping our future.
