Start your fall mornings by nurturing your creativity in a welcoming space, among all-level artists in your community. Join local illustrator Carlos Carmonamedina and ceramicist Mia Angel as they gently guide you through their two-part, multidisciplinary workshop, Mindful Forms. This workshop invites you to slow down and allow your ideas to manifest through the meditative practices of drawing and clay handbuilding.

In the first session you will be guided through the basics of drawing with shapes and volume to sharpen your intuition and begin to capture your ideas on paper. You will then learn to manipulate clay with just your hands and a few basic tools, until you have patiently molded your idea into clay form. In the next session, you will dive into color theory and surface design to decorate and refine your creation.

  • All-levels welcome ages 12+
  • All materials and tools provided
  • Expect to get a little dirty (bring an apron or clothes for cooking/gardening)
  • Participants can choose one (1) piece to be clear-glazed and fired, if desired (available for pick-up 4 weeks from date of last session)

Bios

Carlos Carmonamedina - I am an illustrator and artist, and the creative force behind The Culture Curious, a stationary brand that encourages exploration of lesser-known paths and connects diverse cultures. As a passionate traveler, I like to explore the intersections of culture, identity, and friendship in my workshops.

Mia Angel - I am a US-based Mexican ceramic artist and the hands behind ENCANTARO, a clay project which draws inspiration from the rich artistic and cultural expressions of my home country. I lead handbuilding workshops in the Washington, DC area to invite others into the meditative practice of imagining and making with clay. These workshops serve as a space where we can experiment with process, materials, and personal inspiration together.
