Memorial Day at the National Mall [#20]
Memorial Day at the National Mall [#20]
Memorial Day marks the start of summer, when the seasonal picnic grounds, parks, and pools officially open their doors. This week’s illustration is a celebration of the great outdoors and all the surprises it has to offer. In the background, the Smithsonian Institution Building (also known as ‘the castle’) stands elegantly in the middle of the national mall. A crypt inside guards the remains of James Smithson, who despite never visiting the US while alive, was the founding donor of the Smithsonian Institution.
