Here’s a small tribute to a significant pocket of creative resistance in our city: U Street. At its peak it was the ultimate showcase of jazz performers, the headquarters of the African American intelligentsia, the go-go birthplace. In the middle of a gentrification process, its colorful walls still contrast with the gray of the capital and attract large groups of people every weekend.
