Columbia Road [#211]
A scene outside the former Ontario Theater in Columbia Rd.
Designed by architect John J. Zink (who also designed Uptown and Takoma Theater), the Ontario first opened in 1951 and had the most interesting life: from elegant premieres filled with limousines, screenings in Spanish without subtitles and punk & rock shows with artists such as U2, the Clash, Blondie. The iconic marquee was preserved in what is now a building of condos in a rapidly changing neighborhood.
