Arts and Industries Building with Washington Monument [#221]
Arts and Industries Building with Washington Monument [#221]
For the last illustration of my Futurist-in-Residence series I envision the south facade of the Arts and Industries building as a carless and garden-filled Independence Ave. I like to imagine a future with spaces that are more inclusive and friendly.
In this series I wanted to focus on the prevalence of culture as a testimony of our presence on this earth, given the Arts and Industries Building’s importance for the city and the world. The many names the building has been called - the Mother of the Museum, Palace of Wonders, Hall of Inventions- are a strong reminder that culture is a tangible outcome of our ideas and ideals. As with past civilizations, our cultural artifacts will outlive our society, and people of the future will read us through them. The realization of our dreams will be our legacy.
